My mom sends these sugar cookies each year. They taste better than nectar and ambrosia (I've never actually tasted nectar and ambrosia-- but I think these cookies are closer to what the gods would be eating). All throughout my childhood my mom would set these out on our breakfast bar with our names written on them on Valentines morning. As a result, I never hated V-day. Anyway, so now that we are away from home, my mom ships these fedex. She sent one for Richard, for Rachael, and apparently she figures "Laugh" would be a good name for a baby.

Richard and I went to a bed and breakfast for Valentines day called "Parrish Place." When I was going through morning sickness and couldn't watch The Food Network, I temporarily switched to HGTV and the couple who runs Parrish Place were featured on "House Hunters." The place we stayed at was the very house they chose as their bed and breakfast. It was awesome-- we had a little fire place, our own sitting room (shown above), jet tub, and lots of chocolate set out for us.

This was our breakfast that they delivered to our door.

Richard is by far the more impressive cook between us. Here, he channeled the spirit of Bobby Flay and created red chile-honey glazed salmon with black bean sauce and roasted jalapeno crema and green chile toasted pine nut couscous (it had apricots and cherries in it). Check out that plating. Its like I eat at Cafe Ricardos every night (because face it, Richard has been cooking 90% of the meals around here ever since I got pregant). I'm sure I am pretty much the luckiest, and most well-fed woman in the world.

This is something I made last night. Not as elegant or as filling, but this was steamed whole artichokes (steamed in lemon, chicken broth, white wine, garlic, parsley and bay leaves) and a tomatoe spinach baked pita with roasted red pepper and a lemon garlic olive oil. I tried to make that title as fancy as possible, but it still is not quite up to par with what Richard can do. Before I married Richard I ate a lot of baked potatoes with chili and made a lot of weird stir frys that really never should have been eaten (edible, but not palatable).

Wow. That makes my lasagne look like... lasagne. Both of those dishes look amazing. It's a good thing I didn't marry someone as talented with cooking or I'd have a major complex about what I cook. Anyway, are you feeling better, Rachael? I hope so! It's no fun to have wonderful food in front of you and not want to eat it!
yummmmm! i'll attest to that! the roses never let their guests go hungry. not only does it taste good, but it looks good!
