The city has a free mini green compost bucket they give you if you ask for it. I went to Goodwill and bought a cheap metal mixing bowl that we take out every day or every other day. With a family of 6, it builds up fast. I'm sorry about Richard's shoes. When we started taking compost to the yard waste bin, it cut down on our garbage significantly and our garbage stink went down to nearly non existent. You can always start a worm bin. Anna might really like that. ;-)
Seriously?! Again on poor Richard's shoes?! That man needs a new pair of shoes fast! Maybe you should just use sturdier bags. Or take the garbage can all the way out to the one outside. Sad.
