We need help finding and planning a summer vacation for our family. A lot of times we just figure it out ourselves, but I don't want to be thinking 6 months from now "gee, I wish I had just asked some people for some suggestions before we started making plans." We can travel pretty much anytime June or July and we have a moderate budget for our endeavors. Suggestions can include cruises (if you have info as to websites, cruiselines, travel agencies, or secret passwords, all would be helpful as we have never been on a cruise), particular cities in Canada, the Pacific Northwest, or anywhere in California, or any other fun vacation you have had with your family on a budget. Alternatively, if your great uncle has a cabin in Canada/Oregon/California that remains empty most of the time and he loves to lend it to wonderful young couples with charisma...
The criteria:
1. family friendly (Anna will be about a year old)
2. Reasonably priced
3. west coast (including canada)
4. maximum enjoyment
5. good food
okay....GO!

I should probably consult Zeke on this one. We have been budget vacationing this last year and it included camping at Ensign Ranch(my kids are older though, so it was still fun) and last summer we went over to the peninsula to see the Olympic National Rainforest. It's gorgeous over there. The hotel we chose was only so-so, we stayed in Forks(closest town to the rainforest). We hiked the northwestern most part of the US and it was breathtaking views. Go back to August on my blog and you can see some of the pictures if you like. It takes quite a drive to get there though. So far that is it.
When I was a kid, my family went on a camping trip to Ft. Stevens State Park, near Astoria, OR. I had a great time at the beach and we also toured some of the movie locations in the area.
How about a visit to beautiful and exotic Winnemucca, Nevada? Oh wait, good food....nevermind.
Cruises are SO awesome. We went on one that left from LA and went to Mexico and back. It's really cool because there are several places to choose from to eat every meal, and there are no prices because it's all inclusive:). There are tons of fun choices for "day trips", plenty that you could take Anna on. I wouldn't choose that exact one again because we were pretty disappointed in the Mexico (Baja) stop. But San Diego and Catalina Island were fun.
ALSO, my next dream vacation is to go to one of the all-inclusive resorts in Mexico- they're supposed to be pretty cheap and nice. Lots of beach time, swimming pools at the resort, food (not sure how good), nicer accomodations than the cruise (our tiny room was just that - tiny), and I've seen pictures of them, they are BEAUTIFUL. My friend stayed at one with their toddler last year, do I can get you the name of it and send you the link to her blog post about it if you're interested:)
Also, HAWAII. Enough said.
Vacationstogo.com has some great cruise deals. Nate and I did on from that last summer.
Also, we would love to see you San Francisco! I don't know what kind of space we will have, but check back with us if that is something you are interested. We should know where we are living in about 4 weeks.
if you want to try camping in a tent anywhere this summer we have all the gear you could need including a nice big tent, sleeping bags, stove, etc. We could probably even hook you up with a tent heater for Anna since it does get chilly at times in the summer.
In my book camping does not equal vacation in any way, shape or form. So, I would suggest a cruise. Last year we went on one that left from LA that was really reasonably priced. Plus, if you are going in the summer they are even cheaper. We have always gone on Princess, but I think next time we will try Royal Caribbean, it seems like they are geared more towards a younger crowd.
