Ode to the Budget

Sometimes I wish we could afford to go out to eat more often...
and then I remember that the food we make at home almost always tastes way better (and we know whats in it).
Sometimes I wish we could go to the theatre to see every new play...
and then I realize that if it is a good play, it will someday be made into a movie and I can watch it then.
Sometimes I wish we could go to the movies more often...
and then I remind myself that every new movie can eventually be rented on Netflix (and you don't have to worry about babysitters).
Sometimes I wish we could travel to the most beautiful places in the world...
and then I walk outside and recall that people travel from all over to see what I can view from my kitchen window.
Sometimes I wish that we could buy lots of fashionable clothing
and then I remember that I hate shopping, department store mirrors, and that the clothes I bought two years ago still look pretty awesome.
Sometimes I wish we could buy Anna all the new toys...
and then I watch her get delighted by an empty canister or the crinkly sound of paper or the doorstop and I realize her favorite toys (including Richard and I) don't cost anything.
Sometimes I wish we could afford expensive gym memberships...
and then I look at my new pair of running shoes and I realize that no treadmill in the world can compete with the trails I have access to that wind around mountains and lakes.
Sometimes I wish we could afford to buy a home...
and then I realize that home is wherever my husband and baby are, and that I can wait, and have patience for these things that we cannot afford now....but someday.

And I am happy with my life!

You have a much better attitude than I do. This morning I was wishing I was independently wealthy so I could keep sleeping instead of having to go to work. And to hire a nanny to get up with the baby lest crying further inhibited sleep. ;-)

I totally agree! Just today I was wishing that I could buy a new cardigan, but we have a morgage. :) Hearing how you are working so hard to keep to your budget inspires me to do the same. It's so easy for me to want to "poof" something.

So well put ... and I can relate to so much of that. Sometimes when I catch myself thinking "It will be really nice..." I realize ... are you kidding me this is the best time in our lives! Someday school will be over and we'll really have to start making a living.
