You know what happens when you assume....

So a few weeks ago I saw that a friend's status on Gmail was "available"

I had known this person previously to be married, so it was with sinking heart that I thought of my now single friend. Were there warning signs? Had I observed anything between her husband and she which would have led me to believe that their marriage was decaying?

After some thought, I wrote out a heartfelt email, expressing my sympathy and remorse for the inevitable pain that I knew she must be feeling. I also expressed my desire to be there in case she needed anyone to talk to or confide in during this hard time....

a few days later, my friend wrote me back and informed me that "available" had no reference at to her marital status (she was still married), it merely meant that she was available to chat...

if I could have been buried under a mountain at that moment, I would have. As it was, I couldn't even face my computer screen in my mortified state.

Oh man. That is hilarious. I mean, embarrassing...more funny for someone who didn't do it, I imagine.

Yikes! At least you were being kind in your concern for your friend, even though it was misplaced. :)

What Rachael didn't mention is that the friend was me!

Oh Rach...were you at all concerned that your status (and Richard's) was also "available"? Way to take action though. I'm sure she loves you all the more for it. I know I do. :) Thanks for giving me a good laugh.
